I address the evolution of religious prosociality in the framework of cultural evolution and complex adaptive systems. Shared belonging to the group contributes to cooperation and trust among members within the group. I am interested in whether various types of religious beliefs (norms and rituals) increase cooperation between members of different groups and influence changes in group boundaries. I also examine what external factors (e.g., conflict) affect this generalized prosociality.
